A significant earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale has struck Panama, prompting tsunami warnings across the western shores of Central and South America. The tremor, which occurred near the southern coast, has raised concerns as hazardous waves could impact areas stretching from Ecuador in the south to Mexico in the north.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquake’s epicenter was located approximately 14 kilometers (9 miles) southwest of the isolated village of Pitaloza Arriba. Following the initial quake, 13 aftershocks have been recorded, adding to the unease in the region.
