Stargazers will be treated to a stunning celestial sight this week as the waning crescent moon approaches Jupiter in the early morning sky. Those willing to rise at 5am will catch a glimpse of this beautiful alignment, with Mars also making an appearance a bit further away.
On Tuesday, viewers looking east from London will see the moon, illuminated at around 10%, positioned closely to the brilliant planet Jupiter. This close proximity sets the stage for an upcoming conjunction later that day, when the moon will pass within less than a degree of Jupiter. For reference, the moon’s apparent width in the sky is approximately half a degree.
This event offers a perfect opportunity for early risers to enjoy the wonders of our solar system as the moon transitions to the other side of Jupiter by the following morning.
