Alfredo Bravo had always cherished his freedom as a pilot, vowing to keep his life unanchored by marriage and family. However, a chance communication from an air traffic controller in Santiago dramatically altered his course.
In the 1990s, Bravo’s experiences as a bush pilot in the rugged terrains of Chilean Patagonia and a commercial pilot navigating the skies of rural China equipped him to handle numerous challenges. Yet, it was a single voice crackling through the radio that not only caught his attention but also stirred something deeper within him, shifting his focus and reshaping his world.
Bravo had already amassed a wealth of flying experience, tackling various tasks that included aerial firefighting and conducting surveillance missions to monitor pollution levels in the heavily congested airspace of Santiago. He had flown countless hours for photo crews, capturing images for timber companies engaged in disputes with the Indigenous Mapuche people. Despite being an outsider, often camping in the fields among Indigenous communities and working in solitude at the hangar, Bravo possessed a unique charm that would soon take center stage in his life.
