Operations at Indonesia’s primary international airport came to a standstill on Sunday following the eruption of Anak Krakatoa, which sent a significant ash cloud into the atmosphere.
The eruption, which occurred on Saturday, was powerful enough to generate booming sounds audible as far as 700 kilometers (approximately 435 miles) away, according to the country’s geological agency. It has disrupted travel plans for more than 22,000 passengers and affected 209 flights, particularly those traveling to and from Singapore.
