During the second day of the event, Deputy Leader Richard Tice took to the stage amidst controversy following an undercover investigation that implicated party officials in attempts to circumvent laws on foreign donations. As he began his speech, a provocative banner displaying the message “Collect £5m, burn the planet” was briefly visible before being removed.
Tice, who has encouraged attendees to embrace the recent record-breaking heatwaves, continued his address despite the distraction. The crowd in Birmingham, which included supporters like Jeanette Bowden from Bexley, largely resonated with his sentiments. “I enjoyed the heat this summer,” she stated, while her partner James echoed a common refrain among skeptics, claiming, “Carbon dioxide levels were much higher in the past; it’s not a human problem.”
