The World Central Kitchen (WCK) crew was positioned along Gaza’s coast, supervising the unloading of a barge laden with critical food items onto a makeshift jetty crafted from sand and debris. This was a desperate response to a humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the ongoing Gaza war, which had persisted for six months, leaving the region on the brink of famine.
In an effort to facilitate the delivery, WCK and local Palestinian contractors had constructed the jetty using whatever materials were available, including remnants from bombed structures. The food was being transported by boat from Cyprus due to the closure of land crossings by Israel.
